CHS FFA students advance to State

The Region 1 Wildlife Management and Area 1 Range Evaluation contests were held at the Matador Wildlife Management Area on Monday. The range-evaluation team of Peyton Dockray, Jessica Stiner, and Cescilly Beach (at top) placed first. The wildlife-management team of Callie Vinson, Peyton Dockray, Aubrie Poe, and Karson Thompson (below) placed second in the region. Both teams will be advancing to state competition later this month. CHS One-Act Play heads to Regionals next week

The Canadian High School Theatre Arts Department’s production of Chemical Imbalance: A Jekyll and Hyde Play will be performed next Thursday, April 15, in the Regional One-Act Play Contest, at Clyde ISD. The curtains will open at 9 am Thursday morning for the CHS troupe. The judge’s critique will be presented at 9:50 am.

Some people we see regularly in normal times have decided not to get vaccinated for COVID. The result is heart-breaking. As a result of their decision to pass on the vaccine, two couples are being shunned.

CHS wins district academic UIL championship

After COVID concerns postponed—and eventually canceled—last year’s district academic UIL competition, Canadian High School students made up for lost time last Wednesday. The highly-motivated CHS contingent claimed six team firstplaces, 13 individual gold medals, and the district UIL championship trophy, qualifying 29 individuals for 19 regional events.

At noon on Monday, March 29, CHS students and their parents are invited to learn about a Panhandle Workforce Commission program that can potentially help alleviate some of the costs associated with attending any type of post-high school education. The program, which is relatively easy to qualify for, is available to both adults and youth, and includes a variety of educational pursuits, from certification to trade school to college. The meeting will be held at noon in the Canadian High School LGI room. Valerie Hood will be in Mrs. Warren’s classroom through the lunch hour and sixth period to meet with anyone who may be interested.

Buffalo Wallow Young Marines to host recruit training

Body

The Young Marines, a national youth organization, will hold an information session for prospective parents and youth for the Buffalo Wallow Unit at 6 pm on Tuesday, March 23, at Abundant Life Church, 310 Birch St., in Canadian.

The Young Marines is a youth education and service program for boys and girls, from age 8 through the completion of high school. The program focuses on character building, leadership, self-discipline, and promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
