Xcel Energy’s tree trimming efforts prevent outages

EDITOR'S NOTE: Xcel Energy has announced plans to trim trees near power lines here in Canadian. The crews will begin work sometime around the end of May and the first of June. The project will be carried out by Asplundh. Xcel will initiate an outbound call campaign informing local property owners and residents when the trimmers will be in the area, and will provide customers with Asplundh's contact information should they need to communicate with trimmers ahead of time.

I HAVE BEEN WRITING a weekly recipe column, with much help from family and friends, for several years now. Reading recipes has always been a pleasure, I have more cookbooks than I can possibly use in a lifetime and now internet recipes pop up in my mailbox daily. I know that this experience has made me a better and more adventurous cook and a much happier eater. CANADIAN—Xcel Energy plans to trim trees near power lines serving customers in Canadian to prevent tree-related power outages and to lessen the chance of wildfire fueled by overgrown vegetation.

The work will be carried out by Asplundh between April and June.

A heavy, wet snow carpeted most of the Texas Panhandle early Tuesday morning and continued to fall throughout the day, measuring anywhere from 1-2 inches in the northernmost areas, to 5-7 inches from Pampa to Wellington, and a whopping 11 inches in Plainview.

City Parks Superintendent Wesley Wallace trims limbs from the newly-acquired boom. Tree maintenance has resumed as a result of the acquisition. In the photo at left, city employees Luis Vigil and Filiberto Herrera were installing two new stop signs at the intersection of Lamar and Sixth Street. Last Monday, city council members unanimously approved the proposal by Wallace to replace the existing stop and yield signs with stop signs to improve the flow of traffic and safety of reside nts.
