Rodeo recruitment efforts led by Economic Development Council derailed by CRA board

Body
Efforts by the Economic Development Council to bring more rodeo events to Canadian seemed, until recently, to be paying off—not only for rodeo competitors and their fans, but also for local retailers who welcomed the influx of visitors, and who benefitted from the shoppers and diners it brought into their businesses. Three of those merchants visited this month’s EDC board meeting and, in public comment, voiced their concerns that three rodeos originally scheduled to be held here were abruptly moved to other venues.

DAR Chapter meets

Body
Remelle Farrar was the guest speaker recently at the monthly luncheon of the Comancheria Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, held in the WCTU Library meeting room. Farrar spoke on the Red River Wars of 1874, of which several battles were fought in our local area. This war is labeled as the most important war that is never remembered, and is one that changed history—not only in this state, but also nationally. While much is known about the individual battles, Farrar provided insight into the economic and political reasons for the war, as well as the ramifications and results of the aftermath for these battles.
