Hemphill County Disaster Relief Task Force Two working committees have undertaken the task of meeting the most pressing needs of wildfire victims in Hemphill County. One—the Hemphill County Ag Committee—is focused on the immediate needs of ranchers who have been burned out, and who need to replace fences and other ranch facilities, and to replenish and find supplemental sources of feed for their livestock.

CHS track-and-field advances 23 to area

Body
Canadian girls finished second overall, and the boys finished third at the District 1-3A track-and-field meet in Bushland last Friday and Saturday. The Lady Cats tallied 156 points to district champion Bushland’s 224.5 points, and advanced all three relay teams to the area round.

CHS Theatre presents Annual Spring Showcase Sunday, April 24

The public is invited to the CHS Theatre Department’s Annual Spring Showcase, which will be presented at the Texas Crown Performance Hall on Sunday, April 24. Three plays will be staged, including this year’s One-Act Play, The Sweet Science of Bruising, which earned top acting and technical honors at district, bi-district and area rounds of competition, but failed to advance to regionals. The showcase will also include performances of two one-act plays by the freshman students—Tracks by Peter Tarsi (photo at top), and The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Dwayne Hartford (photo above). After a dessert intermission, students will stage their final public performance of The Sweet Science of Bruising. The showcase will begin at 6 pm with back-to-back performances, followed by a dessert intermission at 7:30 pm, and the final performance of Sweet Science at 8 pm. Tickets will be available in advance for adults/$10 and students/$2, or for purchase at the door for adults/$12 and students/$3. Advance tickets can be purchased from any theatre student, of by contacting theatre instructor Mistie Walser at 806.255.0157.
