Tim and Betsy Alexander, owners of Alexander’s Grocery and Deli, were the opening bidders—and the only bidders—in a public sale of the Canadian Apartments property held Tuesday morning on the courthouse steps.

Dessa Hext competed in barrels and poles at Gillette, Wyoming, and finished with a world-class sixth overall with a total time of 51.881 on three runs. In her first go, Hext placed first with a time of 17.223. On her second go-round Wednesday evening, Hext claimed second place in 17.401. In the short go, she placed 13th out of 20 finalists with a time of 17.257.

Canadian Record Editor and Publisher Laurie Ezzell Brown was presented one of the Texas Press Association’s highest honors—the Frank. W. Mayborn Award for Community Leadership—during last weekend’s Texas Press Association Annual Convention, held in San Marcos.
