On Saturday morning, P.E.O Texas State Chapter I celebrated a century of sisterhood. Local members and those from neighboring chapters gathered at the Citadelle for the occasion. President Linda Rader welcomed the 40-plus attendees, and a photograph of the group was taken by Alan Hale. Their chaplain, Deb Vandygriff, gave the devotional. Following a brunch, the Chapter I history prepared by Betty Cooper, which included original text by founding member Marie Jones, was presented by Wendie Cook. She also read remarks prepared by Warren Rivers who spoke of his late wife Jane’s treasured connection with the group and by John C. Isaacs who told how much his mother, Cleo, valued her time in P.E.O.

Christmas in Canadian rings in the holiday season Saturday

Body
Santa Claus arrived at the Palace Theatre, promptly at 9 am, where Natalie Weeks of Peanut Photos had the shutter snapping as she captured images of over 200 children on Santa’s lap while he listened to their Christmas wish lists. The crowds arrived all morning— not in a frantic flood, but in a steady flow—to visit with Santa and to decorate cookies provided by CASA downstairs. At the end of the day, attendance was every bit as high as last year. “I always gauge our success by the kids,” Weeks said, adding that when she asked her son, Atticus, about his foray around town, “He said he had a lot of fun.”
