Canadian ISD board seeks voter approval in special Nov. 8 tax rate election

The Canadian ISD Board has ordered a special election for the purpose of a voter-approved tax rate election to be held on Nov. 8. CISD has set the overall 2022 tax rate at $1.1646. Even though this tax rate is reduced by almost 11 cents from the 2021 CISD tax rate of $1.2734, a voterapproved tax rate election is required because the board added three golden pennies to the maintenance & operating (M&O) portion of our tax rate.

COLUMBIA FALLS, MAINE—Wreaths Across America Radio just announced the next episode in its series of roundtable discussions focused on veteran healing through sharing stories of resilience, purpose, and success.

Travis Mills (left) and the late Denzil Leonard were both combat veterans, and both were gravely wounded in wars decades apart. They met and shared an audience together at the Citadelle Art Museum in October 2014.

Army veteran and noted wildlife photographer Dick Wilberforce honored at Tri-State Rodeo

Richard “Dick” Wilberforce, a local veteran and member of Canadian’s American Legion Post 56, was honored at the Tri-State Rodeo this Saturday, Sept. 24, in Amarillo.

After the war, Dick Wilberforce became a trainer for the first law enforcement dogs ever used by the Amarillo and Pampa Police Departments.

Canadian River Beach Club announces winners in 14th Annual Calf Fry and Cook-Off contests

The Canadian River Beach Club’s 14th Annual Calf Fry and BBQ Cook-Off is in the books this week after a beautiful day of cooking, feasting, and festing Saturday. Nineteen teams from the tri-state area fired up their grills and cookers to compete in the International Bar-B-Que Cookers Association-sanctioned event, and shared their epicurean works with both judges and a crowd of volunteer taste-testers, who roamed the Jones Pavilion area, relaxed in lawn chairs, perused the craft and trade show booths, and enjoyed games and bouncy toys as the day grew warmer.

Local DAR members seek donations for 2022-23 Wreaths Across America project

The Comancheria Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is kicking off the 2022-23 season, and the first local meeting will be on Thursday, Oct. 13, with Cindy Bowen as hostess. She will present the program on family heirlooms. The local chapter’s goals are to promote patriotism and remember our history through projects, awards, programs, and a scholarship fund.

TxDOT collects short-term traffic counts in Amarillo District

AMARILLO—The Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT) Transportation Planning and Programming (TPP) Division is collecting short-term traffic counts at 1,800 locations across the Amarillo District through Oct. 6. These 24-hour traffic counts will be collected for on-system roadways by contract personnel. Traffic counts are necessary to give TxDOT the information needed for designing new highway projects, determining where maintenance projects need to take place, and to aid in developing air-quality analyses in the district.
