Lady Cat golfers Kyndall Hill and Jordan Cochran were among 10 2019 graduates from area schools who received scholarships from the Mona Jennings Freeman Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund was created in memory of former Canadian High School girls cross-country, basketball, and track coach Mona (Jennings) Freeman, who died in August 2017.

Other recipients were Taylor May and Braxton Floyd, of Pampa, where Mona coached golf and taught from 2002-08; Logan Harris and Cooper Adams of Wheeler, where Mona graduated in 1983; and Chayslyn Ensey, Shea Johnson, Hannah Grange, and Gage Freemen of White Deer, where Mona coached golf and taught for 11 years.

In announcing the scholarships, the Freeman family noted that the fund was the idea of two of Mona’s Texas Tech golfing friends, Lisa Beck and Laurie Brower, who wanted to keep her legacy alive. The first Mo Memorial Golf Tournament was held Oct. 6, 2018, at the Pampa Country Club. Proceeds from that tournament helped fund 10 scholarships of $1,400 each, which were awarded this year.

“After the tournament,” the family said, “we were so blessed and amazed at the outcome of the donations and participation in the tournament....We would like to thank each and every one who donated and helped in making this possible.”

The 2nd Annual Mo Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Pampa Country Club.
