On July 3, representatives of the Canadian Area Legacy Fund met at the Hemphill County Courthouse to distribute $17,000 in donations to three local nonprofit entities: $7,000 to Rachel’s Little House; $5,000 to the city of Canadian for the Chamber of Commerce’s Christmas lighting project; and $5,000 to the Canadian Community Center. The Canadian Area Legacy Fund (formerly known as the Hemphill County Fund) was established in 2007 in partnership with the Amarillo Area Foundation. The first distribution of fund proceeds occurred in April 2013.
