Canadian ISD Board accepts Superintendent McMains' resignation
CANADIAN, Texas – The Canadian Independent School District Board of Trustees has accepted the resignation of Superintendent Dr. Julia McMains, who plans to accept a position with Region 10 Education Service Center.
Dr. McMains' decision will allow her to return to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where she and her family have deep roots, and to be closer to loved ones.
Board President Heath Mitchell said Dr. McMains has made a lasting impact on Canadian ISD through her commitment to students, staff and the community.
"On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to thank Dr. McMains for her dedicated service to Canadian ISD, "Mitchell said. "Her leadership, passion for public education and unwavering commitment to our students have helped move our district forward. While we are certainly disappointed to see her leave, we understand the importance of family and wish her nothing but success in this next chapter."
Dr. McMains has served Canadian ISD with a focus on student success, strong relationships and thoughtful leadership. During her tenure, the district has continued to build on its tradition of academic excellence while advancing key initiatives that support students, staff and the community.
"I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to serve the students, staff, families and community of Canadian ISD," Dr. McMains said. "This community welcomed me with open arms, and I will always cherish the relationships and experiences we have shared. While this opportunity allows me to return home and be closer to my family, Canadian will always hold a special place in my heart."
The Board of Trustees will begin discussing the transition process in the coming weeks. That process will include determining whether to appoint an interim superintendent and considering the use of a superintendent search firm to assist in identifying the district's next leader. Dr. McMains will remain in the district through the end of September to ensure a smooth start to the school year.
The board is committed to ensuring a smooth transition and will keep employees, families and the community informed as decisions are made.
Additional information regarding the superintendent transition will be shared as it becomes available.
