Mary Ann “Maudry” Wright, 71, of Canadian stepped into heaven early Thursday, April 27, 2023, in Canadian.

Memorial graveside services will be held at 1 pm on Friday, May 5, at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery, with Pastor Barry Hosford and Josh Reeves, officiating.  Arrangements and cremation are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

Mary Ann was born to RT Smith and Judy Reed Smith on November 30, 1951, in Canadian. She attended and graduated from Canadian High School. Zona of the Cat’s Paw gave her the name Maudry, meaning “little momma.” Maudry was a kind and thoughtful baby quilt maker for many friends and family.  She was a great cook known for her homemade peanut brittle, jelly and cheese balls.  Maudry married Jack Wright on May 18, 1973. Following their marriage, she became an irreplaceable link in the Wright family.  Maudry was a very loving caregiver for family members in their battles of life and tribulations.  She was well known for providing a heartfelt dish of LOVE for those dealing with the loss of a family member.  Maudry was a hospice volunteer.  She really enjoyed the many Wright Family Reunions and was a fierce competitor in the supposedly “friendly” game of pitch. Maudry inspired others with her strong work ethic and inner strength, faith.  She retired as Vice-President from InterBank, working in the banking industry for 41 years.  Maudrys’ door was open to family and friends for a glass of love and a healthy pinch of honesty. We will miss her sparkling blue eyes that suggested a mischievous spirit that could show at a moment’s notice.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, RT and Judy; husband, Jack; and two brothers, Mike Smith and James Smith.

Those left to share her memory are two daughters, Stacy and Mac McCartor of Arnett, Oklahoma, and Sidney and Chris Cook of Seiling, Oklahoma; two sons, Kelly and Brandy Wright of Canadian and Shawn and Lisa Wright of Weatherford; a grandson, Quade Wright; three granddaughters, Lauren Wright, Abby Wright, and Tayln Wright; and many family members and friends.

Memorials may be made to Hemphill County Hospice, 1020 S. 4th, Canadian, TX 79014; and Mesa View Assisted Living, 1 Teas Circle, Canadian, TX 79014.

The family would like to thank the Mesa View Assisted Living and Mesa View Senior Living caregivers and Hemphill County Hospice nursing staff and volunteers for their loving care.  A special thank-you to Hospice Nurse Barbara Davis.
