Erbin L. Crowell, 105, of Canadian, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2019. Services were held on Sunday, Oct. 13, at 3 pm, at the First United Methodist Church of Canadian, with Pastor Lewis Holland and Pastor David Gerhardt officiating. Graveside services followed at Edith Ford Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

Erbin was born Sept. 6, 1914, to Edna Curnutt and Ernest Crowell in Washita Community, Hemphill County, Texas. He married Louise Tyner on Feb. 1, 1936, in Clovis, New Mexico. She passed away Jan. 2, 2001, just shy of their 65th wedding anniversary. Erbin married Dorothea Morehead on Dec. 24, 2002, in Canadian. He graduated from Canadian High School in 1933, where he was the recipient of the Liske Cup. He was a member of Canadian AF&AM Lodge No. 855; Canadian Rotary Club; and First United Methodist Church of Canadian, where he served as Sunday School teacher, choir director, youth leader, and numerous other capacities. He was honored as Canadian Man of the Year in 1963. He was the first president of Canadian’s Little League in 1957. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Army. He was president of Canadian Production Credit Association and senior vice president of Farm Credit Bank of Texas. Erbin was the quintessential gentleman. He was kind, patient, generous, and deeply loved his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise; sons, Erbin Lavoy “Bunny” Crowell Jr. and Maxim Wiley “Max” Crowell; great-grandson, Calvin Crowell; and three siblings.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothea, of the home; daughters, Marcia Muir and husband Frank of Panhandle, and Mary Hall and husband Richard of New Boston; daughter-in-law, Susan Crowell of Las Vegas, New Mexico; grandchildren, Erbin L. “Ted” Crowell III and wife Kristin Howard, Adam Christgau, Michael Nichols-Crowell and wife Ny Lynn, Alexander Crowell, Amy Griffith and husband Ron, Cindy Lieb and husband John, Douglas Muir and Katie Muir, Kimberly Hall and husband Caldwell Shine, Becky Melton and husband David, and Amanda Hall and husband Chad Summers; great-grandchildren, Elias Howard-Crowell; Connor Nichols-Crowell; Christian, Daniel, Elliott, and Robert Crowell; Brett, Craig, and Scott Spalding; Hayden, James, and Casey Muir; Molly, Kate, and Cooper Lieb; and Audrey, Tyner, and Wiley Melton; great-great-grandchildren, Liv, Holden, Hailynn, Rhyan, Preston, and Vincent; Erbin acquired and embraced Dorothea’s family, Marsha Pool and husband Randy, Ruth Ann Adkins and husband Tony, both deceased, Donna Sue Morehead, and Marshall G. “Pete” Morehead Jr. and wife Tammie, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
