Betty Mort, 72, of Canadian, died June 26, 2019, in Amarillo. Memorial services were held at 2 pm on Monday, July 1, at the Abundant Life Assembly of God Church, with Pastor Barry Hosford officiating. Cremation was under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors of Canadian.

Betty Jane Hilario was born Jan. 6, 1947, in Arkansas City, Kansas. She attended schools and graduated from Arkansas City High School. While living in Arkansas City, she worked at Safeway and the Crayola Factory. Betty married Ed Mort on Nov. 7, 1966, and they celebrated 50 years of marriage. They moved to Canadian in 1981. Betty was a dietary aid at Hemphill County Hospital, and when she retired, she then went to work at Mesa View Assisted Living. She loved her time at Mesa View. Betty was a member of the Abundant Life Assembly of God Church. She loved to cook, especially making desserts. She also loved Twinkies and doing puzzles. Betty delighted in spending time with her family and making people laugh.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Ed Mort.

Survivors include her daughters, Trudy Ochoa and husband Jesse of Arkansas City, Kansas, and Amy Dial and husband Justin of Canadian; two granddaughters, Julia Sandoval and husband Jairo, and Elizabeth Crowley and husband Branson; seven great-grandchildren, Eli John, Elodie Dial, Julian Sandoval, Jewelz Sandoval, Emorie Crowley, Edward Crowley, and Charlotte Crowley; siblings, Macaria Sheldon of Arkansas City, Kansas, Juana Watchous of Arkansas City, Kansas, Linda Duenes of Canadian, Greg Hilario of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Irene Shullaw of Arkansas City, Kansas; cousin, Jimmy Torrez of Oswatomie, Kansas; and nephew, Roger Mort.
