OBITUARY: Benjamin Thomas Sanders
February 7, 1956 – August 18, 2026
Born on February 7, 1956, Ben was a native of Canadian, Texas, where he was raised by his parents, the late Larry and Natalie Sanders, longtime educators in the Canadian community. He graduated from Canadian High School in 1974. Though Canadian was always home in many ways, Amarillo became the community where Ben built his adult life, career, friendships, and many lasting memories.
Ben spent many years working in apartment maintenance, a profession well suited to his generous and helpful nature. Whether on the job or in his neighborhood, he was always willing to lend a hand to someone in need. His kindness, dependability, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on those who knew him.
Ben never met a stranger. Whether on the golf course, by the water with a fishing pole, or gathered around a table sharing a meal, he enjoyed spending time with others and making lasting friendships. Friends and family often remembered his love of good food, good conversation, and the simple joy of being around people. He was well loved by the communities in which he lived and will be remembered for his warm heart and friendly spirit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Natalie Sanders, and his brother, Donnie Morrow.
He is survived by his daughter, Ember (Darrell) Griswold; his brother, Bill (Lala) Sanders; his nieces, Shayla Sanders and Holly (Jimmy) Hamilton; and his nephew, Matt Morrow.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on October 13, 2026, at Hemphill Cemetery in Canadian, Texas.
Ben’s family and friends will remember him for his generosity, his love of conversation, and the many ways he quietly helped those around him. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
