CANADIAN, TEXAS — The City of Canadian is asking local homeowners to help identify housing repair needs in the community as the City explores opportunities to secure federal grant funding for a potential home repair assistance program.

The City has launched a brief Home Repair Needs Survey for residents who own and occupy homes within the City of Canadian. The survey will help City staff better understand the types of repairs needed in the community, the number of households that may qualify for assistance, and the level of interest in a future housing rehabilitation program.

Information collected through the survey will be used to support the City’s evaluation of potential funding through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Housing Preservation Grant Program and other housing assistance opportunities.

The survey asks residents about household size, approximate household income, the age of their home, and needed repairs such as roofing, plumbing, electrical systems, heating and air conditioning, structural issues, accessibility improvements, windows and doors, and other conditions.

Completing the survey does not constitute an application for assistance and does not guarantee eligibility or funding. The survey is intended for planning purposes and to help the City document local housing needs as it develops a competitive grant application.

Residents are asked to complete the survey by close of business on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, so responses can be incorporated into the City’s grant application.

The City encourages residents to share the survey with neighbors, family members, churches, nonprofit organizations, and other community groups that may know homeowners who could benefit from a future home repair program.

“We want to make sure that any program we pursue reflects the actual needs of the people who live here,” Mayor Terrill Bartlett said. “Every response helps us better understand where homeowners are facing challenges and strengthens the City’s ability to pursue resources that could make a real difference in our community.”

Residents are encouraged to complete the survey as soon as possible and no later than the close of business on September 1.
