Wildfire potential grows as drought worsens across Texas Panhandle
Most of the Panhandle is now experiencing moderate to severe drought, while extreme drought conditions have begun to appear in the north and northwest Panhandle.
Hemphill County is now in a moderate drought, according to the Underground Water Conservation District, which has recorded a countywide average of 5.56 inches of rainfall from January-May of 2020.
