On Saturday, August 26, the Wheeler County Sheriff’s Office reported the apprehension and arrest of Brennon Joel Meyers, 36, on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges, including unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, evading arrest in a motor vehicle, aggravated assault of a public servant, deadly conduct and reckless driving.

The arrest occurred around 7 pm after a report of red GMC Sierra stolen from a residence in Canadian led to a lengthy pursuit when the vehicle was seen entering the city of Wheeler. Two Wheeler County deputies attempted to stop the vehicle near Soto’s Restaurant in Wheeler, but the driver fled east on SH 152 for several miles, before stopping suddenly in the middle of the highway, then accelerating in reverse in an attempt to ram the law enforcement vehicles.

The stolen vehicle headed west back into Wheeler, where a constable joined in pursuit. The chase continued through Alan L. Bean Boulevard intersection, onto Comanche Street, east on Texas Avenue, and then south on US 83, where a DPS trooper was able to spike the vehicle’s tires. When the vehicle finally came to a stop in the Mile South parking area, Meyers was apprehended by law enforcement officers following a short pursuit on foot.

Meyers, who has a prior history of felony convictions, was booked into the Wheeler County Jail.
