TxDOT will host a public open house on Tuesday, Aug. 6, here in Canadian to discuss and receive public input on projects to replace five bridges on US 83 in Hemphill County, SH 15 in Hansford County, and SH 15 in Lipscomb County.

The meeting, which will be held at the Hemphill County Library from 6-8 pm, will provide an opportunity for public input, comments and feedback on TxDOT’s plans for two bridge replacements on US 83 in Hemphill County; two bridge replacements on SH 15 in Hansford County; and one bridge replacement on SH 15 in Lipscomb County.

According to TxDOT, each project will utilize accelerated bridge construction techniques to limit the impact on daily roadway users. Each of the bridges targeted for replacement were originally constructed in the 1930s and have timber pile bridge structures. Increased truck loads have necessitated their replacement.

The five projects include:

US 83 in Hemphill County: West Fork of

Horse Creek North and South Bridges

The project limits in Hemphill County are on US 83 at West Fork of Horse Creek (north) and West Fork of Horse Creek (south), both located approximately 13 miles northwest from Canadian. This roadway will be open during construction via an on-site detour limited to 1-lane traffic control utilizing temporary traffic signals for each location.

SH 15 in Hansford County:

Farwell Creek Bridge and Palo Duro Bridge

The projects limits in Hansford County are on SH 15 at Farwell Creek, located approximately 1.5 miles east from Gruver and on SH 15 at Palo Duro Creek located approximately 7 miles east from Gruver. This roadway will be closed during construction for an estimated 21 calendar days. A detour will be signed for the traveling public for each location.

SH 15 in Lipscomb County:

Ivanhoe Creek Bridge

The projects limits in Lipscomb County are on SH 15 at Ivanhoe Creek located approximately 6 miles east from Follett. This roadway will be closed during construction for an estimated 21 calendar days. A detour will be signed for the traveling public.

The Aug. 6 open house will convene with a short presentation from TxDOT officials at 6 pm. Exhibit review, comments, and questions will be welcome after the presentation concludes. TxDOT personnel will be on hand to answer questions and receive public feedback, which will be used to refine and improve the projects as they move forward.

Comments must be received by Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2019, to be included as part of the record.
