Two Pampa residents were injured in a two-vehicle accident on US 60 south of Canadian Monday morning. The accident occurred around 9:30 am Monday, near the intersection with CR 7, when April Morgan, 39, of Pampa, turned the 2013 Dodge Ram 2500 she was driving into the path of a westbound 2006 GMC pickup, driven by Damon De-Witt, 68, also of Pampa.Hemphill County Sheriff Nathan Lewis, who investigated the accident, reported that Morgan was headed east on US 60 and trying to find directions to a lease road on her cellphone map. In the process, she passed the lease road, an attempted to backtrack, making a lefthand turn and broadsiding the GMC pickup.The pickup (at right), owned by Ammons Roofing, was occupied by DeWitt and two other employees, his son Damon DeWitt Jr., and a co-worker Marvin Schmatjen. Both DeWitt and Schmatjen were transported by EMS to Hemphill County Hospital. DeWitt sustained unspecified injuries, and was in surgery at Amarillo’s Northwest Texas Hospital, at last report. Schmatjen was treated and released. Morgan was driving a pickup owned by B&C Portable Toilets, of Pampa, and hauling a fully-loaded tank in the pickup bed. She was cited for failure to yield the right-of-way. DeWitt was cited for driving without a valid license.
