The 40th Annual Southwest Farm & Home Expo will be April 13-14, at the Elk City Convention Center, offering attendees an opportunity to see the newest and best products and services for farm, home, lawn or garden.

Over 100 displays will showcase the latest in farm and livestock equipment and lawn, home and garden supplies. Several special events for this year’s show include the FFA Ag Mechanics Show & Silent Auction, Antique Tractor Display, the Children’s Pedal Tractor Pull, and BBQ Cook-Off. An All-Breed Bull Sale will be held Saturday at 2 pm.

Various food trucks will be staged in the North Parking lot on Saturday and Sunday, and the First Assembly of God Church Girls Ministry will provide concessions in the South Exhibit Hall on Saturday.

Farmers and ranchers may earn CEU credits on Saturday with a presentation by Agronomy Specialist Josh Bushong, who will discuss Drift, Inversion and the use of the Mesonet. Coffee and donuts will precede his presentation at 8:30 am, and lunch will be provided by Fowler Agency.

The All-Breed Bull Sale, which draws people from all over Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas, will feature some of the top breeders in Oklahoma and Texas. Bulls will range from yearlings to two-year-olds. There will be an excellent selection of big stout bulls ready for your farm and ranch needs at 2 pm Saturday in the South Exhibit Hall. Sponsoring the All-Breed Bull Sale is the First National Bank & Trust of Elk City.

The BBQ Cook-Off kicks off on Friday at 6 pm with the cook’s meeting and meat inspection. A $25 entry fee will be charged for each category. The check-in/set up will begin Saturday at 7:30 am, and on Sunday at 8 am. Judging will begin at 1 pm on Sunday.

Categories are Chicken, Pork Ribs, Beef Brisket and Ribeye Steak. There will be cash prizes for first place in each category and trophies for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. Prizes will be awarded Sunday at 4 pm in the North Exhibit Hall. The event is sponsored by the Expo and Smith Hydrovac.

The Children’s Pedal Tractor Pull, for ages 4-12, will begin on Sunday at 1:30 pm with registration at 1 pm in the South Exhibit Hall. Each participant will receive a t-shirt and the top two winners in each age division will also receive a plaque—all donated by Great Plains Bank of Elk City. The pedal tractors are furnished.

There will also be a drawing for three Pedal Tractors—a John Deere donated by Western Equipment, a Case International donated by Rother Brothers, and another pedal tractor donated by Great Plains Kubota. The drawing will be at the end of the Children’s Pedal Tractor Pull. Only participating riders are eligible.

The Elk City Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the Southwest Farm and Home Expo, prides itself on promoting education in agriculture. Every year they award several scholarships to help further high school seniors with their education in the field of agriculture.

“This year’s show is going to be the best yet,” said Kenneth Hart, Expo Co-Chairman. “We have exhibitors that really take pride in their products and services and that helps put our show above the rest.”

Hours for the Southwest Farm and Home Expo are Saturday, April 13 from 9-6, and Sunday, April 14 from 12-5. Admission is free.
