Deputy Monica Knight is on duty this week as Hemphill County’s newest law enforcement officer. Raised in Dalhart, the Texas Panhandle native worked for the last year-anda-half for the Pampa Police Department, and prior to that, served as a dispatcher/jailer for Dallam/Hartley and Sherman Sheriff’s departments. Knight received her training at Amarillo College Law Enforcement Academy. Although initially convinced she would become a labor/delivery nurse, Knight said a stint with the Dalhart PD’s ride-along program while attending Dalhart High School changed her mind. “I’m ready to take advantage of this opportunity God has given me,” she said.
