Texas DPS has completed its investigation into the Thursday, July 4, one-vehicle accident involving 41-year-old Joshua Hector of Canadian. According to their report, Hector was driving a 2010 GMC Sierra north on CR 20 around 9:45 pm that night when he approached a curve at an unsafe speed, lost control of the vehicle, and left the roadway. The vehicle hit a sandhill, went airborne, and after landing, continued through a grassy area for 50 yards before coming to a stop. Hector sustained critical injuries, and was transported by Hemphill County EMS to the hospital, where he was picked up by LifeStar helicopter and flown to Amarillo’s Northwest Texas Hospital. During the investigation, Hector’s seatbelt was found locked, in an unused retracted position. He was cited for not being secured by a safety belt, driving at an unsafe speed, and his third or more DWI.
