On December 24, 2020, Hemphill County Hospital District (HCHD) began immediately administering our limited supply of the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccines, following the CDC Guidelines for Vaccine Distribution.

Phase 1a—Completed

•HCHD vaccinated our hospital and clinic staff, physicians, and others in the healthcare community first.

•The residents and staff at our long-term care facilities (Mesa View Assisted Living and Edward Abraham Nursing Home) were offered vaccines from CVS Pharmacy, and those were administered on January 2, 2021. Fortunately, this allowed us to skip to Phase 1b Distribution much sooner.

How is HCHD Determining Who Qualifies for each Phase of COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution?

•We make the determination based upon the information people provide when requesting to be added to HCHD’s Vaccine List.

•As stated, HCHD is following the CDC Guidelines for Vaccine Distribution; however, we are also currently taking names of anyone 65 and older, as well as anyone 18-64 with an underlying medical condition. Yet, reaching out to anyone 75 and older takes priority.

Phase 1b—Current Stage

•HCHD has already vaccinated a number of frontline essential workers in our community and people aged 75 years and older.

•We are in the process of getting more people in Phase 1b scheduled as we continue working through HCHD’s Vaccine List. If no one answers our call, we move to the next person on the list in Phase 1b (and, when necessary, we move on to people on the list in Phase 1c) each time we make calls. If your name is on our list and you happen to miss our call, this does not move you to the bottom of the list—it just means you were unavailable at the time we called.

HCHD’s Vaccine Supply

•Canadian Family Physicians (CFP) will have administered all of its initial supply (100) tomorrow; however, CFP received 200 additional vaccines this afternoon and is planning a vaccine clinic for tomorrow afternoon, Wednesday, January 6! There is no need for you to contact CFP or the hospital…we will be calling you if your name is already on HCHD’s Vaccine List.

•Hemphill County Hospital (HCH) has now administered all of its initial supply (200), and is currently out of vaccines. We have not received word when additional vaccines will be shipped, but we will immediately resume scheduling appointments as soon as we receive additional vaccines.

Is your name on HCHD’s Vaccine List?

•If you have not yet received your vaccine, and you qualify under Phase 1a, 1b, or 1c, please call our Vaccine Hotline (806-217-4397) between the hours of 8:00am—5:00pm Monday—Friday. If the phone line is busy, please leave your name and number. Our voice mailbox does fill up from time to time…if you are unable to leave a message, we ask that you continue calling the hotline. Please know we are responding to missed calls as quickly as possible, and we truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we diligently work to get everyone vaccinated against COVID-19!

Phase 1c—Hopefully Starting Soon!
