Hemphill County Judge Lisa Johnson has appointed Dale Schafer as Precinct 3 Commissioner, replacing Curt McPherson, whose resignation was accepted by the court last Friday, June 2.

“I appreciate everyone who was interested in serving Hemphill County as commissioner,” Judge Johnson said this afternoon, adding, “After much consideration, I’ve appointed Dale Schafer as Precinct 3 Commissioner.”

McPherson had held the office since January 2017. He cited personal reasons as leading to his decision.

In making her decision, Judge Johnson said she had considered a list of individuals who had expressed an interest in filling the vacant commissioners’ court seat, and had also reviewed a list of registered voters in Precinct 3.

Schafer is the owner of Schafer Services, and has served this community previously on the Canadian ISD Board of Trustees, on the Hemphill County Junior Livestock Show Board of Directors, and as a veteran with the Canadian Volunteer Fire Department.

Schafer will assume his new post on June 16, and will serve until a successor is chosen by voters in the November 5, 2024, general election.
