Canadian City Manager Joe Jarosek notified The Record this morning of his staff’s efforts—now underway—to suppress the growing mosquito population in town. The problem has been compounded by the abundance of precipitation this area has received over the last three weeks.

“The City of Canadian staff is making a concerted effort to address our mosquito population,” Jarosek reported. "During the last three weeks, they have been applying non-toxic, larvae-destroying tablets to standing pools of water; however, frequent rain showers have negated the efforts. Nevertheless, they will continue the effort.”

“At 1 pm today,” Jarosek added, “they will reintroduce larvae-destroying tablets throughout town. Even though we are covering all areas of city properties, we are unable to treat private properties. Accordingly, property owners are encouraged to address the issue on their own.”

Jarosek also noted that city crews are not allowed to spray in areas where crowds are present.
