Sixty-four eighth-grade students received diplomas signifying their graduation from Canadian Middle School Friday evening, May 19, in commencement ceremonies held at the CHS gymnasium.

Following a salutatory address by Joseph Dominguez, and a valedictory address by Bridger Burrus, CMS Principal Megan Longoria presented the eighth-grade class to members of the CISD Board of Trustees, who awarded diplomas to each student.

At the culmination of the ceremony, CISD Superintendent Lynn Pulliam presented the Abraham Cup to Burrus, an outstanding member of the class based on his leadership, citizenship, sportsmanship, personality, and other accomplishments during his 7th and 8th grade years.

As a seventh-grader, Dr. Pulliam said, Bridger Burrus was in the top 10, participated in UIL Academics, Football, Basketball, Track and earned All Region honors in Band, placed in 3 events in the district UIL academic meet. He placed in five events in the district UIL track meet, was a class officer and student senate officer, received the outstanding “C” Award in Science and received the Go-Getter award.

As an eighth-grader, Burrus was in the top 10, and participated in UIL, Football, Basketball, track, Band Solo and Ensemble, and earned All Region honors in Band. He placed in two events in the district UIL academic meet, received the outstanding “C” award in Professional Communication, and again received the Go-Getter award.
