THE STATS: Wildcats fend off Falcon comeback in fourth quarter thriller

Subheader body

After a commanding opening night victory over the Panhandle Panthers—who rebounded last week with a dominating 36-12 victory over Stratford—the Cats faced some diversity on the road against the Bushland Falcons when quarterback Weston Mitchell was injured early in the second half. Building on the Cats’ 14-0 first-half lead, Chris Flores opened the third quarter with a 67-yard touchdown romp. Bushland responded quickly with back-to-back TDs to pull within one score, setting up a dramatic final period—then had to settle for a field goal after a bobbled snap. As the clock wound down, the Wildcat offense chewed up the turf with Flores’ 14-yard gain and backup quarterback Jet Cervantes’ 28-yard endzone run to nail a 27-17 win.

WEEK 3: The Cats (2-0) will host the Shallowater Mustangs (2-0) this Friday at Canadian’s Chris Koetting Field. Game time is 7 pm.
