The organizers of the 9th Annual Share the Love Run/Walk/Bike have announced that the event will take place next month on Sunday, Oct. 27, at 3 pm, starting at Canadian Elementary School. In the past eight years, Share the Love has raised more than $250,000, benefitting local families who are dealing with medical issues.

Landon Landry said there are changes in their giving to the community this year. “We will be giving scholarships to students who are already away at school (sophomore–senior for example). We have identified that there is a need for this. Oftentimes, after the first year, local scholarships, etc., drop-off, leaving quite a bit of financial burden on students. We want to help with that, and help those students who are getting the job done,” said Landry.

Share the Love will work in conjunction with the Canadian Education Foundation to administer the scholarships; therefore, donations will be tax deductible. “That’s great news!” added Landry.

“This has long been a goal of Share the Love. With Randall and Ona [Bentley] being former teachers, their heart was always with getting kids to the next level. Randall had a knack of identifying kids who were not standouts at the time, but were going to be great at what they did down the road. We want that to be our focus—like Randall—to find those students who went off, and even though they did not garner all the accolades and scholarships in high school, have proven that they can, will, and are getting the job done at the higher ed level.

“We will continue to help families in need locally as we have always done ... but in the true spirit of the ‘PE Man’, we want to help make an impact in some of our young adults’ lives, and let them know that we are proud of them!”

Registration is $30 for adults; and $15 for students, fifth-grade and under. Early registration is encouraged to guarantee t-shirts. Registration forms will be available at CES, BES, CMS, and the Canadian Community Center.

Those who wish to mail in donations can do so at Share the Love, PO Box 1000, Canadian, TX 79014.
