Thank you to our volunteers

As the month of May ends and our summer months begin, I want to thank our volunteers for their dedication and hard work. We had about 150 school children visit us in May, including kids from Shamrock, Wheeler, and the Baker Elementary fourth grade. I honestly do not know what I would do without Ilene Floyd and Jan’et Schaef this month. Ilene, with her Native American presentation, is consistently a kid favorite. Jan’et Schaef does a fantastic job of recreating her experience attending the Blue Ridge Schoolhouse. Ladies, y’all are awesome!

I also want to thank Coy and Colt Pittman for volunteering to help catalogue some of our collection. These young men are saving me and Elizabeth valuable time to focus on programs and events. Thank you, boys!

Go take a hike

Get ready! Page L. Steed (photos at right) is coming back on Wednesday, June 12, 12–1 pm. Her second luncheon presentation will focus on taking photographs while hiking. She will provide tips on what to take and what to expect based upon her own experiences. This will be your last chance to see this exhibit, as she will start taking down her prints soon after. Lunch, tea, and water will be provided. You don’t want to miss it.
