Melissa Hammett and Matt Young wed in New Ulm

Melissa Hammett of San Antonio, and Matt Young of Houston were united in marriage on June 29, 2019, at 5:30 pm, in a doublering ceremony held at The Vine at New Ulm. Barry Hosford pastor of the Abundant Life Assembly of God in Canadian, officiated the service.

The bride is the daughter of Jeffrey and Nicola Hammett of Columbus. She is the granddaughter of Frazier Mentiplay and the late Irene Mentiplay of Scotland, and Georganna and the late Dillard Hammett of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The groom is the son of Craig and Cindy Young of Canadian. He is the grandson of Lee and Genise Young, Sandy Waterfield, and the late Jim Waterfield, all of Canadian.

Given in marriage by her father, Jeffrey Hammett, the bride wore a white A-line bridal gown with lace on the top and tulle on the bottom. Her bouquet was a mixture of light pink and white Ranunculus mixed with greenery cascading into a teardrop shape.

The maid of honor was Haley Rider, the bride’s best friend. Other bridesmaids were Lauren Lancon, Rachelle Lemoine, Stephanie Hamblen, Josline Alex, Lauren Brymer, Brittany Young, Rachel Murray, Rachel Waugh, Tracey Young, the groom’s sister; Wani Young, the groom’s sister-in-law; and Megan Horn, the groom’s cousin. The bridal party was attired in different styles of a full-length formal in dusty sage green.

The groom’s brother, David Young, was his best man. Groomsmen were Josh Yekzaman, Jacob Fletcher, Robert Tise, Auston English, David Godino, Larrylee Horn, the groom’s cousin; Austin Hammett, the bride’s brother; Stuart Foster, Edward Garland, Steve Ecker, and Nick Ecker. The groom wore a light-gray suit with a white bowtie and white shirt. The groomsmen wore lightgray suits with sage-green bowties and white shirts.

Flower girls were Sawyer Horn, the groom’s cousin; and the bride’s cousins, Georgia and Ruthie Cunningham, and Melody Kolbensvick. Hunter Horn, the groom’s cousin was the ringbearer. Serving as ushers were Tanner Horn, the groom’s cousin, and Cooper Cunningham, the bride’s cousin.

The bride entered to the instrumental version of “Hallelujah.” Scripture readers were Tyna Horn, the groom’s aunt, and Karen Hammett, the bride’s aunt. Lee Young, grandfather of the groom, said a prayer of blessing. The Union Bell Chapel was decorated with pink-and-white flowers on the pews, and on the cross on the wall, the backdrop of the ceremony.

After the nuptials, guests walked to the Barrel Barn for the reception that included dinner and dancing to the Ziggy Band of Houston. The dinner menu was prime rib, baked chicken, scalloped potatoes, salad, green beans, and rolls, followed by dessert of homemade ice cream and wedding cake. Breakfast tacos were served at 11 pm.

After a wedding trip to Montego Bay, Jamaica, the couple is at home in San Antonio.

The bride graduated from Columbus High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Texas A&M University, and a master’s degree in biomedical science. She is enrolled in the UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry, beginning her second year.

The groom graduated from Canadian High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Oklahoma State University. He is employed by Cameron International Corporation as a program manager.
