Canadian City Manager Joe Jarosek notified The Record this morning of his staff’s efforts—now underway—to suppress the growing mosquito population in town. The problem has been compounded by the abundance of precipitation this area has received over the last three weeks.
An estimated 447 Xcel Energy customers in Canadian were impacted by a brief power outage on Sunday, June 4. The outage occurred at 10:52 am Sunday, and affected only a portion of residents within the city limits of Canadian. Power was restored within the hour.

Monday, May 29, 2023, was Memorial Day and Canadian's observance at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery saw perfect weather for the annual event.
The Honor Guard included David Parnell (flag bearer), Tommy Wyatt, John Rivers, Lacie Benjamin, Billy Benjamin, Alfred Godino, John McGarr, Jason Bradford and Warren Rivers. Dr. Malouf Abraham presented the memorial wreath, John McGarr gave a special address honoring a local veteran, the late Ray Risley. Tina Godino cued the National Anthem and Taps and Ana Lovelace assisted the Honor Guard with its presentation.
The Coffee Memorial Blood Center is not currently in an emergency blood appeal, but is needing to take the necessary steps not to get there. The entire blood industry is faced with a problem like we have never seen before.

Canadian’s annual Memorial Day service will be held at 11 am on Monday, May 29, at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery. As is traditional, the service will be conducted by American Legion Post 56. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be moved to the Jones Pavilion.
TxDOT Safety Orange has returned to Canadian in abundance this week, with the long-anticipated start of the US 60 Highway Improvement Project, which extends from Birch Street on the south edge of town to the intersection with Main Street in the center of downtown.
