Rep. Ken King to chair new committee investigating Panhandle wildfires

AUSTIN – On Tuesday, March 12, Speaker Dade Phelan announced the creation of an Investigative Committee on the Panhandle Wildfires. Representative Ken King will serve as the Chair of this committee which will include Representatives Burrows and Hunter, as well as community members Jason Abraham and Ashley Cash.

Massive wildfires ignited by power lines

Two wildfires that burned more than 1 million acres in the Panhandle were caused by downed power lines, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.

Juan Rodriguez, with the service, told the Texas Standard that its law enforcement investigators had concluded their probe into the source of the Smokehouse Creek and Windy Deuce fires.

Heath Hayden announces run for CISD school board seat

I am excited to announce my candidacy for the Canadian ISD Board of Trustees. I have long been an advocate for education and Canadian’s reputation for its academic excellence was a major reason for my decision to locate here in 2011. I personally have experience with education at a variety of levels and know the value of having a strong foundation in the K-12 level.
