I graduated in 1987 from Oklahoma State University where I met my wife, Betsy. We moved to Hemphill County in 1988 and opened Alexander’s Grocery and Deli. We have three grown children that were raised in Canadian and graduated from CISD.

My name is Courtney Kendall and I’m seeking election for the office of Hemphill County Treasurer in the 2026 election.
Voters approve all 17 proposed amendments
Texas voters approved all 17 constitutional amendments on the ballot last week, the Houston Chronicle reported. Those included measures to raise the homestead exemption and reduce property taxes for businesses, and to provide $1 billion annually for a statewide water fund.
Other propositions passed would allow judges to deny bail to people accused of serious crimes and create a $3 billion dementia research fund.

Premiums rise as ACA open enrollment begins
The window for signing up for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act is now open through Jan. 15, with most Texans expected to pay considerably higher premiums, The Texas Tribune reported. Federal subsidies that reduced premium rates will expire at year’s end without congressional action.
