The Canadian/Hemphill County Chamber of Commerce is preparing its publicity and promotional materials for this year’s 4th of July celebration and is asking that all information related to those event be submitted to their office no later than Monday, May 3, at 5 pm. After a year in which the traditional events were canceled due to disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the Chamber office is planning to return to those time-honored traditions, including a parade, turtle race, watermelon feed, and more, to be held on Saturday, July 3. If you or an organization you represent wishes to include information about an event in the Chamber’s plans, please contact Events Coordinator Jackie McPherson at 806.323.6234, stop by the Visitors’ Center at 119 N. 2nd Street, or email jackie@canadiantx.com. A reminder: This year’s parade theme is “Star-Spangled Salute.”

Miami ISD official issues statement on student arrests

On Tuesday, April 6, Miami ISD Superintendent Donna Hale released a statement in response to inquiries regarding the recent indictments and arrests of three MHS students. The students—Tanner Cummings Miller, Rance Ely Moreno, and Tristen Leo Douglas—face multiple felony charges, ranging from indecency with a child with sexual contact and sexual assault of a child, to sexual assault and aggravated assault causing bodily injury.
