Hemphill County Judge George Briant announced that newly-appointed Justice of the Peace Kathy Dumbauld will be officially sworn into office on Friday morning. The ceremony will be held in commissioners court at 8 pm at the courthouse. The appointment follows the recent announcement by longtime Hemphill County Justice of the Peace Larry Dunnam that he would retire from office at the end of this month.

Hemphill County Hospital lab reports nine new COVID-19 cases in week

According to the latest data from the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS), more than 250 Texans have died of COVID-19 on average every day in the last month. At least 89 Texas hospitals were out of ICU beds last week (Look up the ones near you using this handy link from Texas Tribune: https://www.texastribune.org/2021/08/23/texas-hospital-icu-capacity/). And Texas schools have reported more coronavirus cases in less than two months than they did in the entire 2020-21 school year.
