During the financial reports delivered in the Oct. 19 Hemphill County Hospital District board meeting, Jennifer Cox, with Thomas & Thomas Financial Management Services, reported $5.6 million in cash for the district, as of Oct. 15. The amount included $837,944 in undedicated cash; $3.7 million in the tax account; $613,000 in CDs; and $503,000 in dedicated cash. The tax account figure represented $200,000 in year ‘22 tax payments.

The 2022 health insurance open enrollment season is here (Nov. 1-Dec. 15). So now is the time to think about changes to your health coverage. But before you do, make sure any plan you’re considering actually gives you the coverage you seek. Dishonest companies sometimes market medical discount plans or health plans with limited insurance benefits, as comprehensive health insurance. And sometimes they just lie about the “health plans” they offer.

On Monday, Oct. 25, Gov. Greg Abbott signed legislation adopting new redistricting maps for the U.S. House of Representatives, Texas Senate, Texas House of Representatives, and State Board of Education. His action cleared the way for state election officials to announce the official dates for the 2022 primary and primary runoff elections, which are expected to be held on March 1 and May 24.

Polls open 7 am Tuesday for special constitutional amendment, school elections Early voting ends tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 29, in two special elections—the constitutional amendment election, in which this state’s voters will determine the fate of eight proposed amendments to the Texas Constitution; and the local CISD board of trustees election, in which voters will choose one of four candidates to fill the unexpired term of Landon Landry, who resigned from the board last month.

The Coffee Memorial Blood Center will be at Canadian’s Church of Christ Fellowship Hall from noon to 6 pm on Thursday, Nov. 11, for a community blood drive. Exceptions are made for 16-year-old donors who have a signed parental consent form.
