When Alex Moreno returns to Canadian on Monday to perform with his fellow Rice University Shepherd School of Music composers and musicians, the circle will be complete. Moreno began his musical career here as a child, and quickly became immersed in school band programs.

Canadian ISD officials capped the school year on Monday by presenting selected teachers and staff with Wildcat Excellence Awards, citing their contributions to public education. The awards were presented by Superintendent Lynn Pulliam, Instructional Technology Specialist Lawana Pulliam, and the principal from each campus.

IT TAKES A LARGE GROUP of people to make things run smoothly around the museum. From day-to-day operations to special events, we rely on volunteers to help out on a regular basis. I’d like to take a moment to recognize and thank a few of those individuals.

In June 2003, Larry Dunnam was honored with a major league thank-you in a ceremony prior to the start of the All-Star games here. Dunnam had been the heart and soul of Canadian’s Little League organization for over 35 years, and surrounded by friends and family members—three of whom stuck around that evening to ump the bases—Dunnam accepted a plaque and gifts of appreciation for his service to the organization. Then he stepped to the mound for the ceremonial first pitch.
