Local man escapes serious injury in truck/train collision

Last Thursday morning at approximately 6:32 am, a 2009 GMC pickup driven by Antonio Capetillo Jr. of Canadian was involved in a crash with a BNSF trail at the Purcell Street crossing in Canadian. Closed-circuit video was obtained to determine the details of the crash.
The driver of this GMC pickup got lucky Thursday morning, when he accelerated into a lowered crossing arm and struck the side of a passing train. The pickup was not so lucky. Law enforcement officials were unsure what had caused the accident, but cited Capetillo with disregarding a railroad crossing signal.

CHS FFA state competitors

On Thursday, April 28, two teams from the Canadian FFA Chapter competed in career development events at the state level. The environmental and natural resources team of Saira Moreno, Karson Thompson, Teagan Ash, and Aubrie Poe placed fourth out of 26 schools. Individually, Moreno was the fourth high-point individual. The range evaluation team, consisting of Delaney Huntress, Kinley Long, Cescilly Beach, and Jackson Poe, finished 19th out of 58 qualifying schools and 221 contestants. Tarleton State University hosted these events. Tonny Hamby, CHS agriscience instructor, coaches both teams.

The Citadelle Mansion and Art Gallery welcomed an appreciative audience of about 50 Monday evening to the opening of Full Circle: A Musical Museum Experience, a presentation in partnership with Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music.
