Ball club opens season May 13; opening game will be played on the local diamond.

Canadian's Baseball Nine will open this year's season of the great American game on the local diamond next Sunday afternoon against the Higgins-Booster team.
During last season both Higgins and Booster Station supported teams but this year they have combined forces and should have a snappy nine after picking the best players from both to form one team.

TRASHED! That describes what happened in this West Texas village last weekend. On Saturday, a crowd of more than 1,000 people descended on our small park along the South Concho River. The scene was similar to the photos of beach crowds in California and Florida. Young, bored, cooped-up, and probably unemployed West Texans did what others in the country did on a beautiful spring weekend when stayat-home orders were relaxed—they headed for the beach, the lake, and parks along rivers like ours. The result was a disaster.

WE’RE OPEN! We have reopened the museum part-time this week—Tuesday through Friday, noon to 5 pm, and 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday. However, due to Gov. Abbott’s guidance on continued social distancing, we are only allowing five visitors in at a time. We have also blocked off our interactive exhibits/activities. Should the coronavirus situation becomes worse in our area, we may temporarily close again. Hopefully, it won’t come to that, and we will be able to fully open in the near future.

Street Artist

Body
The Citadelle Art Foundation’s Chalk the Walk project occupied young artists’ time, sparked their imaginations, and resulted in the beautification of sidewalks around town for several days earlier this month. But the idea seems to have gained a foothold here on Main Street in front of Brown Bag Roasters, where barista and street artist Madi Baltes Rodgers has created a series of colorful pieces with encouraging and upbeat messages that unfailingly brighten our days. They are temporary art, as we all learned when last week’s plentiful rain storm instantly transformed the sidewalk into a sudden wash of watercolors. The next day, Madi was back at it, and this week, she took a bright new set colored chalk and donned an old leather glove that she uses to blend the colors and soften the edges, and designed this version of a Texas skyline, which she dedicated to The Canadian Record. It’s definitely worth a stroll down Main to catch a glimpse of Madi’s next composition before the next downpour.

Preparations are being made for the big celebration and Rodeo to be held at Anvil Park Lake July 5th of this year.

The grandstand will be more than doubled in capacity, and the slogan will be “a seat for everybody.”

Order will be placed, and delivery will be made about May 1, of a carload of the wildest steers that ever came out of the country of Old Mexico. These steers will be of all colors of the rainbow, have a wide sweep of horns, and will be the type of steers usually seen in all Rodeos.
