Memorial Day service set for Monday at Edith Ford Cemetery

Canadian’s annual Memorial Day service will be held at 11 am on Monday, May 29, at Edith Ford Memorial Cemetery. As is traditional, the service will be conducted by American Legion Post 56. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be moved to the Jones Pavilion.

A key House education committee adjourned last week without voting on a school voucher bill that is Gov. Greg Abbott’s top priority this session, the Houston Chronicle reported. Barring some unforeseen maneuver in the last week of the regular legislative session, the bill is effectively dead for now.

Millions of Texans still not wearing seat belts

AUSTIN – It has been nearly seven years since Eden Ganzerla lost control of her car while driving to work and crashed into a retaining wall, breaking nearly every bone in her body. Since then, she has endured thousands of hours of physical, occupational and speech therapy, the result of one fateful decision to not wear her seat belt.

Ganzerla now struggles with a traumatic brain injury, speaks with the aid of a computer, and is slowly learning how to walk and talk again.
