AUSTIN (KXAN)—If you’re putting off renewing your driver’s license because of the expiration date waiver, now is the time to make an appointment at the DMV. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reminds Texans that the waiver, which applies only to driver’s licenses that expired on or after March 13, 2020, will end on April 14.

Rate of new infections, deaths declines in rural counties

The number of new COVID-19 infections in rural counties fell by 20 percent for the second week in a row, dropping to levels not seen since early November. The number of COVID-related deaths also declined, after reaching a recordsetting high two weeks ago.

According to the map above, provided by Daily Yonder #usafacts, residents of Hemphill County (pop. 3,819) had 59 new COVID-19 cases from Jan. 17-23. In their first meeting of the New Year, held on Jan. 11, commissioners reviewed annual inspection reports and plans of action for the Upper Washita watershed dam sites in Hemphill County. Judge George Briant explained that, since the 1970s, there have been concerns about the integrity of one dam in particular, which controls water flow into Gageby Creek.
