Canadian’s Lady Cats are headed back to the UIL state cross-country meet for a second straight year. The Wildcats didn’t advance, ending their superb season during Tuesday’s Region I-3A cross-country meet at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.

Canadian stayed hot last Friday night, shaking off a slow start to roar past the Spearman Lynx, thanks to a 42-3 rout at Lynx Stadium. The Wildcats have put together four wins in a row, improving to 5-2 overall on the year, and more importantly, staying atop the District 3-3A Division II standings at 2-0.

Canadian’s cross-country teams have had plenty of time off to rest up before their biggest meet of the year takes place this coming week. The Wildcats and Lady Cats are looking forward to a trip to Lubbock, as both hope to extend their seasons when they compete in the Region I-3A cross-country meet, set for Tuesday morning, Oct.

Canadian’s JV Wildcats took charge in the first quarter of last Thursday’s hometown showdown with the Lynx and never blinked. The Cats racked up a 20-6 advantage in the first quarter; held on to a 27-8 lead at halftime; and after a scoreless third quarter, answered the Lynx 25-yard scoring run with an airmailed Keelan Baileys-to-Jose Vargas pass to walk away with a 33-14 victory.

In a game filled with momentum swings, the Canadian Wildcats reeled off 35 unanswered second-half points to pull away from a gritty Childress squad and open District3-3A Division II with a 62-28 victory from a rainy Fair Park Stadium on Friday night.

Both of Canadian’s varsity cross-country teams made a clean sweep through the District 1-3A cross-country meet on Wednesday afternoon at the Palo Duro Creek Course in Spearman to claim the district championship.

It was a decisive 36-6 win, too.

Canadian’s cross-country teams had impressive showings while hosting the Wildcat Invitational last Saturday. Almost 300 runners participated in the event from across the Panhandle.
