The rocky road to Lowrey Field

Body
The Canadian Wildcat Band left Canadian well before the sun rose Saturday morning en route to Lubbock’s Lowrey Field and the 3A, Area A Marching Band Competition. They knew they might have a long day ahead. Little did they know just how long.

Note-Worthy

Body
This week is a very eventful week for the Canadian Wildcat Band! Thanks to the community’s support and congratulations, the band scored all 1s at the UIL Regional Marching Contest. This Saturday, Oct. 23, the band will compete in the UIL Area Band Marching Contest in Lubbock! Band members have worked very hard to refine and better the show these past couple of weeks. The band will take the field to perform at 11:15 am at Lowrey Field. Admission prices to watch the contest start at $5 and are valid for both the preliminary and final competitions, and a hand stamp is required for re-entry. Hope to see y’all there!

Millennials are criticized, mocked, and often dismissed as a “not-so-great” generation. This huge group born between 1982 and 1996 has a reputation for being spoiled, entitled, lazy, lacking work ethic, and for being a drag on society. Comedians joke about millennials being Generation ME ME ME, unemployed and living in their parents’ basements or expecting a trophy even though they lost the game. More than half of Americans are millennials or Generation Z (born after 1996). Is the bad press millennials get really true? I recently took stock of millennials I know.

Autumn leaves are on the verge of falling. Pecan leaves have turned bright yellow. The air is crisp and clean, and days and nights are getting cooler. All things fall are in full swing. Cotton bolls have popped open in the fields. The hay is baled. The corn maze is open for business. Pumpkins and pumpkin-flavored products abound in supermarkets along with lots of trick-or-treat candy. Neighbors have scarecrows on their porches, chrysanthemums in pots, and eerie ghosts hanging in trees. Everyone is geared up for Halloween, and it’s only the first week in October.
