Not much changed for the Canadian Wildcat football team during the 2022-2024 UIL realignment that happened last Thursday. After the UIL released its cutoff numbers in December, Canadian Athletic Director Chris Koetting knew his team was going to stay in Class 3A Division II.

The empty and abandoned 32-unit Canadian Apartment Complex has been razed. Demolition is complete, the property has been cleared, and the land is ready once again for productive use.

In December, council members unanimously approved an ordinance amending the City Code of Ordinances by adding Article 4.05, concerning the regulation and conduct of game rooms within the city limits. The ordinance establishes a licensing and regulatory process for game rooms and amusement redemption machines, adds an occupation tax, and provides for penalties not to exceed $500 for each offense.

A one-vehicle accident that occurred late in the evening of Sunday, Jan. 23, sent the driver running from the scene, and his passenger to Hemphill County Hospital via EMS.
