Wish You Were Here Riders visit Canadian on the 4th

Body
Just over 1,000 miles into their mission to bring public attention to the tragedy of suicide in this country, a group of about two dozen motorcyclists pulled into the Oasis Truck Stop parking lot just outside of Canadian. The stop was brief—just long enough to fill their tanks and shake the miles off.
This group of motorcyclists traveled 1,676 miles last week through America's Heartland on Highway 83 to draw attention to suicide, its causes, its victims and its prevention.

Triumph from Tragedy: A Horse Story

Body

IN THE STILL-DARK morning of March 6, everything changed for the Hext family. Everything.

Dessa Hext and cousin Liza Cooper had returned home late Saturday evening from a trip to Fort Worth. As is usual, they had been rodeoing, and the trailer full of horses they hauled had to be unloaded and fed before they could get some sleep.

“We put all the horses up, like normal,” said Dessa, “and went home to bed. At 4:45, I woke up to my mom screaming. ‘Get up,’ she said. ‘The barn is on fire.’”

City sealcoating to include previously unpaved streets

Body
Work will begin at the end of this month on annual city and county street sealcoating projects. For the first time in many years, that project will include the application of a double-course treatment on several sections of previously unpaved roads within the city limits.
City employees Filiberto Herrera and Luis Vigil (in orange vest) prepared a drainage gutter on Lamar Street last week, in preparation for a road improvement project that will result in the first-time paving of six blocks of streets.
