Voters in May 2 election will settle races for City Council, Water District and School boards

Voters in this Saturday's local elections will determine the fate of candidates in three contested races. At stake are three seats on the Canadian City Council, three seats on the Hemphill County Underground Water District Board of Directors, and two seats on the Canadian ISD Board of Trustees.

Election Day polling places will be open from 7 am-7 pm this Saturday, May 2. Early voting in all three races ended on Tuesday, April 28.

Get Your Sticks on Route 66: Donate Blood and Hit the Open Road

It is time to put it into gear and hit the open road. Our Blood Institute Coffee Memorial Blood Center is kicking off its April and May donor campaign, inviting the community to make a stop along the iconic Route 66 and help fuel the journey for patients in local hospitals.

From now through May 31, all successful blood donors will receive a limited-edition Route 66 themed T-shirt featuring the slogan “Get Your Sticks on Route 66.”

City of Canadian Recycling Center recognized for 15 years of outstanding recycling efforts

The City of Canadian is proud to announce that its Recycling Center has been recognized by Keep Texas Beautiful for 15 years of outstanding recycling efforts.

This recognition reflects the City’s long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship, waste reduction, and providing residents with a reliable recycling program that benefits the entire community. In 2025 alone, the City’s recycling efforts saved 757 trees, conserved 311,710 gallons of water, and prevented 400,770 pounds of air pollution.

Harrington String Quartet to End Season with New Work by WT Composer

CANYON—West Texas A&M University’s Harrington String Quartet will close its season with a newly commissioned work that’s intimately tied to each of its members.

The quartet will debut String Quartet No. 2, “Harrington,” at its 7:30 p.m. April 10 concert in Mary Moody Northen Recital Hall on WT’s Canyon campus. Tickets are $20. Call 806-651-2840.

Paxton calls for Hancock’s removal

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton called for Gov. Greg Abbott to remove acting state comptroller Kelly Hancock, calling him an “incompetent loser,” The Dallas Morning News reported. Paxton said the governor should replace him with Don Huffines, who defeated Hancock in the GOP primary race for the post earlier this month.
