Abbott: Flooding death toll now at 135

Gov. Greg Abbott said late last week that the statewide death toll from the catastrophic flooding in the Hill Country stands at 135, and the number of persons missing has dropped to three.

The July 4 flooding began when the storm stalled over what is known as “Flash Flood Alley,” The Dallas Morning News reported.

Notice is now given that the Hemphill County Underground Water Conservation District Board of Directors will meet at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, in the Hemphill County Underground Water Conservation District Board Room, located at 211 N 2^nd Street, Canadian, TX.   At this meeting, the following business may be considered and recommended for board action:

CANYON – A teenager suspected of planning an attack at local Independence Day festivities in Northwest Texas is behind bars thanks to a joint investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Amarillo Police Department (APD) and the Randall Co. District Attorney’s Office. On July 2, 2025, Kevin Hunt, 18, of Canyon, Texas, was detained on an emergency mental health warrant after investigators became increasingly concerned about the potential for Hunt to harm himself or others.

Felony Arrests

Kerr County death toll tops 100, with 161 still missing

Search teams have recovered 103 bodies in Kerr County after the devastating July 4 floods along the Guadalupe River, with Gov. Greg Abbott saying at least 161 people were still unaccounted for.

President Donald Trump visited the area on Friday to survey the damage, the San Antonio Express-News reported. The president promised the federal government would “fully fund” recovery efforts.
