Ranching on the 100th Meridian
Body
Justin and Bryn Rader are both fifth-generation ranchers who grew up on family ranches in the Texas Panhandle near the 100th Meridian. Both are graduates of area universities. Justin earned a Bachelor of Science in rangeland management from Oklahoma State University, after which he completed Texas Christian University’s Ranch Management Program. Bryn earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from West Texas A&M University, before she went further afield to earn a Master of Science in nursing at Vanderbilt University.
Public hearing on 'Safe Return to School' plan draws a crowd to CES last Thursday

About 70 people attended the public hearing held last Thursday evening to review and comment on Canadian ISD’s Safe Return to School plan. Superintendent Lynn Pulliam and the board of trustees fielded a range of questions and comments from the community on the guidelines developed to facilitate the start of school this month, even as the COVID-19 case count continues to rise in Hemphill County.

Hemphill County Hospital District reported two new positive tests locally during the past week, as well as two new positive tests for residents of other counties. The Hemphill County residents are on home isolation.

Public is urged to attend tonight’s hearing on Canadian ISD’s plan for August school reopening

A public hearing at 6:30 pm tonight (Thursday, July 30) at the Canadian Elementary School Cafetorium will offer community members the opportunity to learn more about Canadian ISD’s plan for the safe reopening of school. Tonight’s open forum will give the public a chance to seek answers to their questions and to address any concerns they may have about the new protocols (see summary on following page) that will be implemented to protect students and staff from exposure to the coronavirus when the 2020-21 school year begins.
Canadian ISD Safe Return to School Plan

Our Safe Return to School Plan describes how Canadian ISD will mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in our school system in order to keep our students, staff, and community as safe as possible. While our youth are probably the least likely to experience fatalities or suffer long-lasting health effects, many of our staff and others in the community who may come into contact with students are at higher risk due to age and/or existing health issues.
Mystery seeds arrive in Texas

Texas residents are now among those across the nation receiving mysterious seeds delivered by mail in tiny bags marked as jewelry. U.S. Department of Agriculture officials are on alert because these seeds are unsolicited and are arriving in packages with Chinese writing and a return address in China.
