City recycling program earns praise from PRPC

City Manager Joe Jarosek shared a report from the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission this week, indicating that the city of Canadian had recycled 53,660 pounds of waste, and diverted 26.83 tons from the landfill. PRPC reported that the load of corrugated cardboard boxes picked up in Canadian on Sept. 14 had netted a check to the city of $4,950.13. “Your program is commendable, and I congratulate you and your recycling center staff for those efforts,” wrote Lori Gunn, PRPC regional services program coordinator.

Planting trees at Wildcat Stadium

Thirty-nine trees—half of them Chinese pistache and half cottonwood—were planted around the rim of Wildcat Stadium last week, and will someday provide shade for generations of Canadian High School students, their families, and Wildcat fans.
