AMARILLO—The Xcel Energy Foundation has granted $50,000 to disaster relief funds at the United Way of Amarillo and Canyon and the Amarillo Area Foundation to help Texas Panhandle residents affected by severe weather events during June.

House Democrats’ tax plan would help renters

Texas House Democrats unveiled a $20.9 billion plan for property tax relief that drops tax rates, increases the homestead exemption, gives annual rebates to renters, and includes pay raises for teachers, the Austin American-Statesman reported.

The newest proposal comes as the Legislature continues wrangling over the issue in the second special session this year.

Texas June '23 Drilling Permit and Completion Statistics

AUSTIN-The Railroad Commission of Texas issued a total of 781 original drilling permits in June 2023. The total includes 694 to drill new oil or gas wells, 8 to re-enter plugged wellbores and 70 for re-completions of existing wellbores.

The breakdown of well types for total original drilling permits in June 2023 is: 166 oil, 58 gas, 501 oil and gas, 38 injection, 1 for service and 17 other permits.
